On Monday, April 16th, Petit Bill’s Bistro, 1293 Wellington Street in Ottawa, celebrated its fifth anniversary with a special Newfoundland menu “Monday for Max”, drawing a full house and raising just over $12,000 for the Max Keeping Foundation’s Play to the Max program.

Petit Bill’s has been a supporter of the MKF since it opened five years ago. This year’s celebration included a raffle for a trip to the George Street Festival in St. John’s, Newfoundland, won by Donna Gourlay of Lanark.

There was also a silent auction including a painting of Ottawa Senators forward Chris Neal, a copy of the Charter of Rights signed by Prime Minister Harper and former Prime Minister Jean Chretien (a donation from MP Royal Galipeau), wine baskets and more.

Play to the Max, in partnership with the Ottawa Senators Foundation, funds children and youth from low income families to access recreation and sports.

Thank you again to Petit Bill’s co-owner, Randy Fitzpatrick.

The Max Keeping Foundation has expanded to Cornwall with a goal of increasing access to sports and recreation opportunities for local youth in low-income families.

Mayor Bob Kilger joined with Mr.Keeping and other community leaders at Latour Financial Group on Monday, April 16th to announce the launch of the Cornwall chapter of the Max Keeping Foundation (www.MaxKeepingFoundation.org), a non-profit organization that assists financially disadvantaged children and families to meet emotional, physical and emergency needs.

Latour Financial Group will work with theMax KeepingFoundationto oversee the Cornwall chapter, and funds raised will go towards the Foundation’s Play to theMaxprogram. Offered in partnership with the Ottawa Senators Foundation, Play to theMaxprovides grants to ensure economically disadvantaged children can access sports and recreation programs.

“Mr.Keeping has been a great friend to Cornwall over the years, and we’re thrilled that he has agreed to help us once more through his Foundation,” saidGillesLatourof Latour Financial Group. “At Latour, we were looking for a way to give back to the community and this presented a great opportunity. The great thing about this initiative is that the money that is raised in Cornwall will stay in Cornwall.”

The City of Cornwall’s Parks & Recreation Department currently administers accessibility programs for vulnerable citizens in the Cornwall area, and it will administer the Play to theMaxprogram in Cornwall. Additional information on the eligibility requirements and application process for these programs can be found on the Recreation section of the City website, www.Cornwall.ca.

“This new partnership will allow even more families to participate in local sports programs and encourage them to lead healthy lifestyles,” saidChristineLefebvre, Division Manager of Parks & Recreation.

To help kick-start the initiative, the Cornwall Police Association has pledged to contribute the proceeds of its annual golf tournament to the program for the next three years.

“This announcement represents an investment in our future,” saidMayorBobKilger. “Sports programs provide a great environment to learn about things like team work and respect. Thanks to this new partnership, additional youths in our community will get to enjoy the many benefits that come with playing organized sports.”
